Situated on the far western fringes of the capital lies Hillingdon, London’s second-largest borough. Most famous for being home to Heathrow Airport, it is, surprisingly, where town and country meet. It boasts a staggering 800 acres of woodland, country parks, fields and farms, several rivers and the Grand Union Canal. This offers plenty of opportunities for you to explore the countryside and escape the hustle and bustle. Aside from this, Hillingdon also nurtures various lively town centres in urban spots such as Uxbridge. Although the borough doesn’t have the same range of dining and retail options as more central areas, there are still some great restaurant options to be found. Entertainment wise, Hillingdon has two theatres, the Compass Theatre in Ickenham and the Winston Churchill Theatre in Ruislip. They both host productions by various amateur groups. The London Motor Museum is also based here in Hayes. With over 200 collectables, the museum is home to one of the largest collections of both classic and custom automobiles in Europe. If you are venturing further afield, you’ll be pleased to know that Hillingdon is extremely well connected. There are several tube stations across the borough served by the Metropolitan and Piccadilly lines. There are also many overground services including regular trains to Heathrow Airport.
